Help us raise the Roof! |
|
Dear Friends,
Last year I wrote about problems with our church roof. The existing roof is from 1985 and is zinc-coated. In our coastal city, the salt air, ice, and snow have taken their toll.
The roof leaks and is rusting badly in places, so the zinc is no longer protecting it. Replacing the entire roof, the gutters, and downspouts within one year is difficult because
of the short stretch of favorable weather and because it would be prohibitively expensive. Therefore, we expect the entire job to take 2 years.
Our goal is to make the church safe for visitors and protected from the
elements. Specific objectives for the first year of our restoration project have
been accomplished with the help of our many benefactors and a foundation in
America, and our parishioners in Russia! Thank you! The repairs on the 2 roofs
for the sacristies are done and not a minute too soon before the bad weather
hit! At the end of August, just as we were finishing up the roof in one of the
sacristies, we had a huge rain storm and our vestments got soaked! We were able
to dry them out and only lost one vestment in the upset. The upper cabinets were
swollen shut from the moisture so it took a few days for them to dry out enough
to open them again. Thanks to the many who helped us raise the immediate funds
to complete this part of the repairs!
Thanks to the generosity of many benefactors, the amount raised from Year 1 has carried over to Year 2.
Now fundraising for the roof repairs will go towards Year 2, Phase 2 of the roof restoration project.
That is to replace gutters and downspouts. The total budget for the 2-year project can be viewed here.
The entire project involves 1,214 square meters of roofing. Phase 2 will require more time to complete
the work and more materials. We have $48,991 of the $88,799 needed. We continue to pray for your help
to cover the $39,808 needed to start Phase 2 of the roof restoration by Spring 2012.
Thank you for your help. Please stay tuned to our website and newsletter for updates on the roof project.
God bless you. Fr. Myron

| Notice there are no gutters or downspouts on the old roof either. We have to supply them with the new roof.
