The Caritas Medical Program provides health care for the poor, especially the homebound, who are not able to afford health insurance. Each Caritas Medical Center is staffed by volunteer doctors and nurses, some of which are parishioners.

The staff, who are very well educated, struggle with broken and outdated equipment. They sometimes have to do without what would be considered necessities in a modern doctor's office, such as autoclaves for sterilizing equipment, ultrasound machines, blood pressure cuffs, syringes, and diagnostic laboratory equipment.

Caritas buys medication for those patients who could otherwise not afford it on their own. However, there is still a severe lack of medication.

For more information, see the article in the October 1995 issue of the Vladivostok Sunrise. (Note: Issue is saved as JPEG files, so it may take some time to load.)
