Street Kids Rescue And Prevention Program

Our parish has recently expanded our program for the many orphaned, abandoned, needy, and runaway children living in Vladivostok and other cities of the Russian Far East.

We have worked with needy children for 15 years already, including street children, “Save the Children”, and the many orphanages, children’s homes, and birth hospitals in the Russian Far East, working with the government agencies, working through our Women’s Support Centers, and working through our volunteers. In September of 2006 we added yet another volunteer to our program, Brian Roche from St Louis MO, who is fluent in Russian and loves to work with the orphans who are so much in need of masculine attention since they live in orphanages where all the workers are women.

Initially, our work with street children was a food wagon which brought meals to children in various parts of the city. We are able to feed the children in a warm, sanitary cafe. We also provide warm winter clothing and offering counseling, job searches, dental and medical aid, and encouragement to return to school and, if possible, to family.

Now we’ve expanded our work even further to include a prevention program where we begin to work with children who are in danger of leaving home because of parental abuse, alcoholism, or poverty.

Sergei, age 9.

Now that the program has been expanded, we desperately need your generous donations. It is truly amazing that we have been able to do so much with our limited resources, and when we see the children responding to our help, we know that we must keep doing this vital work.

Dima, age 9.   The facial laceration is from a policeman who abused Dima to make him afraid of showing himself in public.
