Boy Scout Troop 1860

OUR MISSION

The Scout program serves to help our parish kids and kids from poor families to have quality recreation;
to teach the boys basic camping and survival skills;
to strengthen friendship between boys from different parishes.Winter 2007 camp-out

WHAT DO WE DO?

Usually, we have two - three summer campouts or trips and one winter campout. Our summer trips always include a "Keep our Homeland clean" action when the troop cleans up beaches from trash. Mainly we camp out on Russian island where are historic fortresses, wild recreational areas and wide access to sea. We have a volunteer leader, Mr. Bondarev, who helps us on troop campouts.

Occasionally, during the summer, an American ScoutExploring underground tunnels would come and camp with us, where they teach us about scouting. The successful summer scout camps show that the mission can do it. Incidentally, Fr. Myron and his helpers have to do it themselves!

WHAT ELSE CAN BE DONE?

Since 2005 our troop 1860 (the number reflects the founding date of Vladivostok) has been registered with the Russian Association of Navigators/ Scouts (WOSM). Our troop is already organized and we hope, with your help troops in other parishes of our state will be soon on the way. They would need to be built from the ground up.

It appears to become a necessity to have a facility where we could keep some of the equipment handy and for a shelter during the hurricanes or a classroom. We also need donations to sponsor those kids which families are not able to afford any extra expenses as to send a boy for a three day camp out.
This program might extend to incorporate boys from a local orphanage as it was tried successfully in the summer 2006. Those kids are in the most need for such an outlet due to their isolation from peers.
The hope is that this program will lead the Russian youth to fill a need, especially since so many come from one - parent fatherless homes. For two summers in a row the Marines had been happy to have us duiring their drills

To facilitate this program supplies like tents, backpacks, sleeping bags, camouflage suites and binoculars are needed.

But most of all the kids need consistency and stability – to be sure this program is a sign of our care and love.
